On Friday November 2nd, the new publishing house Boycott will present their extraordinary picture book ‘De pittige pruim die een pop werd’ from critically acclaimed Czech authors Vojtěch Mašek and Chrudoš Valoušek.
What does the ‘pittige pruim’ has to endure before it becomes a wooden doll? The book tells the unbelievable life story of Pinocchio-like figure from the time he was a pit that got spat into the puddle to the time he became a wooden doll running for a president. In the story full of absurd humor and unexpected twists, this wooden raconteur makes you believe almost everything he says.
The book launch will revolve around a large exhibition of the book’s original artworks – linocuts, B&W prints and sketches from the illustrator Chrudoš Valoušek. This legendary Czech artist and graphic designer is widely known for his unique linocuts that have received multiple prestigious book awards over the years.
As special quests, BOYCOTT has invited book’s authors Chrudoš Valoušek & Vojtěch Mašek, a graphic designer Juraj Horváth and the translator Edgar de Bruin. Jury Horvath (professor of illustration at Prague’s art academy UMPRUM) and Chrudoš Valoušek will also give a linocut masterclass in the Friday afternoon. More info about that soon!
In collaboration with BOYCOTT, we have made silkscreen posters from book’s illustrations that will be exclusively for sale at the event.
